Grimsby Town striker earns League Two Player of the Month award

Grimsby Town striker James Hanson has won the award for League Two Player of the Month after a strong start to life at Blundell Park.

Grimsby Town striker James Hanson has been awarded the League Two Player of the Month by the EFL, beating tough competition. His five goals and three assists in seven games was enough for him to beat Swindon Town’s Eoin Doyle, Newport County full-back Ryan Haynes and Forest Green Rovers full-back Joseph Mills to the award.

Grimsby boss Michael Jolley spoke to the EFL about Hanson’s impact in the early stages of the season, saying that he has been a great guy to have around the club since signing him earlier this summer.

“He got five goals and three assists in August so the award was much-deserved. And, more than that, the impact on our team – he’s a big threat in the box, but also outside the box he works very hard.

“He’s a very humble guy, and he’s willing to work hard for the team – he runs around a lot. And we’re very pleased to have him so well done to him for the award.”

Hanson also spoke upon the confirmation of his award, saying that he is happy to have settled into his new club and hit the ground running at Blundell Road.

“When you come to a new club you always try and hit the ground running, and thankfully I’ve done that so far. I’ve managed to get five goals and three assists and, more importantly, the team has started quite well so I’m happy.

“I’m delighted to get it, and it just shows how well we’re doing as a team as well, and the gaffer was in the nominees for the Manager of the Month award. So it just shows that we’re on the right track, and we’ve started how we wanted to start.”
